Ticking or Knocking Sounds

Weak lubrication is usually indicated by unusual ticking. For example, hydraulic lifters can be noisy due to dirty oil passages or insufficient pressure. Knocking can also be caused by worn-out parts losing their protective oil layer.

Sludge Appears Under the Oil Cap

Startup Noise Lasts Longer Than Normal

At startup, oil has to circulate rapidly to the upper engine components. The engine may temporarily tick or rattle if oil drains away when the vehicle is parked.

An anti-wear motor oil additive can help oil stick to surfaces. Cold-start lubrication may also be supported by the selected engine oil additives. As a result, startup noise can be reduced.

How to Choose the Correct Additive

First, determine the real symptom. Only after confirming low pressure through proper testing, use an oil additive. Select an engine cleaning additive for signs of sludge, varnish, or sticky components that are controlled by oil.

Next, verify compatibility. The chosen motor oil additive must be compatible with the oil type, viscosity grade, and the vehicle's needs. Also, do not mix multiple engine oil additives, since overlapping chemical packages may disrupt the balance of the lubricant.

Lastly, follow the dosage instructions. An excessive number of additives may cause the oil to be too thick or slow cold-start flow. Likewise, excessive application of an engine cleaning additive can cause the deposits to loosen more quickly than the filter can grab them.
